Cigar Construction
Have you ever wondered how cigars are made? Here are some cigar construction terms to help you understand what goes into cigar making.
Hand Made - Hand made cigars use long tobacco leaves as the filler which runs the length of the cigar. The filler, binder and wrapper are combined by hand.
Machine Made - Machine made cigars use machinery to combine "short filler" with the binder and wrapper. Often Homogenized tobacco is use because of the tension caused from the machinery.
Hand Rolled - A machine combines the long filler with the binder and then the cigar is hand rolled.

Cigar Shades
The shade of the cigar is used to identify various cigars. This chart describes some of the most popular shades.
Double Claro - Light green, candela (Also known as "American Market Selection)
Candela - green/light green, A Very young leaf.
Claro - (CL) Light tan (This wrapper usually comes from Connecticut.)
Colorado Claro or Natural - Light brown to brown. (Also called EMS English Market Selection)
Colorado / Colorado Maduro - Brown to reddish brown
Maduro - (MAD) Dark brown aged.
Oscuro - Very dark or black Maduro.
